The goal of reducing global plastic pollution seems increasingly distant after a text presented to delegates of 184 countries in Geneva was rejected on Wednesday. Government representatives are aiming to address the urgent need to curb plastic waste and its impact on the environment. However, countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, and China are pushing to limit the text’s reach in order to protect their economies from possible consequences. Talks in Geneva are set to continue through Thursday night, as tensions rise over finding a common ground to address plastic pollution on a global scale.
