ADDIS ABABA – Tewolde, an Eritrean who has fought in previous conflicts, is anxious about the possibility of a new war erupting with Ethiopia. He expressed his concerns, saying, ‘If the war starts, many people will go to the front and face devastating losses, as we have witnessed before.’ Tewolde, who resides in the Eritrean capital Asmara, fought in the late 1990s during the border war with Ethiopia and more recently in clashes in the region of Tigray. With tensions rising between the two neighboring countries once again, Eritreans like Tewolde are haunted by the memories of past conflicts and losses. The looming threat of war has reignited fears and uncertainty among the population.
