Ovechkin Sets New NHL Record for Game-Winning Goals

Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals has set another NHL record for game-winning goals, the league’s press office reports. Washington defeated Columbus 5-1 on the road in a regular-season match. Ovechkin scored his second goal of the game, which became his 27th career game-winner, surpassing the previous record of 26 shared by Gordie Howe and Phil Esposito. Ovechkin’s achievement solidifies his place as one of the NHL’s greatest goal scorers of all time.
