Over 1200 dead in Southeast Asia flood – race to provide aid underway

Over 800 people are still missing in the three countries of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Meanwhile, the death toll for the three countries and Malaysia has exceeded 1200. Although the floodwaters have largely receded, the destruction has left hundreds of thousands now living in temporary shelters struggling to access clean water and food. Indonesia’s authorities have announced that they are sending 34,000 tons of rice and 6.8 million liters of cooking oil to the three hardest-hit provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
