The process of creating an artificial diamond is different from natural geological formation. Machines are used to replicate the high pressure and temperature environment in which natural diamonds are created, as reported by Forbes magazine. A compound, made of carbon extracted from the ashes through this process, is subjected to high temperature and pressure, resulting in a material similar to graphite. This material, after undergoing cleaning, cutting, and polishing processes, will be ready in the desired shape for the client.
The cost of a memorial diamond depends on factors such as size, color, custom design of the jewelry, and carat weight. They are available in colors like white, blue, yellow, and even black. The price of the jewelry is estimated to range from $800 to $50,000.
In specialized laboratories, carbon is subjected to high pressure, at temperatures up to 1,500ºC. Initially, the material becomes graphite, and then transforms into diamond crystals. StarGen Diamonds explains the steps of the process on their website:
Step 1 – Source submission: The client sends the genetic material (hair, nail, ashes, or umbilical cord) to the company.
Step 2 – Extraction and purification: Carbon is extracted and purified from the material sent, in a 14-day process to ensure purity.
Step 3 – Diamond formation: Purified carbon is transformed into a diamond through nanotechnology, recreating the natural formation process.
Step 4 – Cutting and polishing: The diamond is laser cut and manually polished to ensure brightness and perfect cuts.
Step 5 – Certification: The diamond is internationally certified, ensuring its authenticity and quality.
Step 6 – Assembly and delivery: The diamond is mounted on a personalized piece of jewelry and delivered to the client, ready to be cherished.
