Sanchar Saathi App: Government Faces Opposition Following Cyber Security Concerns

The Indian government has taken a significant step to protect against cybercrime by instructing smartphone manufacturers to pre-install the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ app on all new smartphones from March 2026. This app will help locate lost or stolen phones by tracking their IMEI numbers, aiding in blocking stolen devices and assisting in recovering missing mobile phones. However, the app faced criticism from the opposition in parliament and led to the government being questioned in the House.
