Satellite Data Contradicts Maharashtra Government’s Claim Linking Mumbai Air Pollution with Ethiopian Volcano

A government lawyer attempted to attribute Mumbai’s air pollution to the recent volcanic eruption in Ethiopia. However, the Bombay High Court dismissed this claim, asserting that Mumbai was already experiencing high pollution levels prior to the eruption. Satellite data analysis conducted by India Today Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) further discredits the government’s argument by showing that the volcanic plume did not pass over Mumbai at any point. Moreover, data from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board indicates that Mumbai’s air quality remained unaffected by the Ethiopian eruption. The path of the volcanic ash did not intersect with Mumbai’s atmosphere, providing additional evidence against the government’s claim.
