The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) ‘strongly condemns’ the civilian casualties in Gaza and the Israeli and American strikes in Iran during the month of June. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the leaders gathered with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday in Tianjin.
The SCO summit addressed various regional and global issues, focusing on promoting cooperation and peace. Leaders expressed concerns about recent events in Gaza and Iran, emphasizing the importance of respecting international law and protecting civilian lives.
During the meeting, President Putin, President Pezeshkian, Prime Minister Modi, and President Xi Jinping discussed strategies to enhance security and stability in the region. They reiterated their commitment to dialogue and diplomacy for resolving conflicts and preventing further escalation of tensions.
President Putin highlighted the need for all parties to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation in the Middle East and beyond. President Pezeshkian called for a peaceful resolution to the conflicts and expressed solidarity with the affected populations in Gaza and Iran.
The leaders reaffirmed their support for a peaceful and diplomatic solution to the crises, underscoring the importance of multilateral cooperation.
