In the early hours of Sunday, it finally happened. As the deadline passed at 2:01 Central European Time, the so-called snapback came into effect, reinstating a series of severe sanctions against Iran, including an arms embargo and restrictions on nuclear technology. The U.S. initiated this move despite opposition from China and Russia, who are key players in the Iranian nuclear deal. There are growing worries that these countries may not adhere to the renewed sanctions, potentially undermining the effectiveness of the measures. The snapback was triggered after the U.S. claimed Iran violated the terms of the agreement, even though Washington withdrew from the deal in 2018.
