France, Germany, and the United Kingdom recently utilized the ‘snapback’ mechanism within Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal to reinstate U.N. sanctions. This move comes as a response to Iran’s failure to comply with the terms of the agreement, particularly regarding its nuclear activities. As a result, the State Department has imposed sanctions on several entities and individuals connected to Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Among those sanctioned are five individuals and one entity linked to Iran’s pre-2004 nuclear weapons program, including the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, which is actively pursuing nuclear capabilities for military purposes.
