Study Finds HIV Strains in India Resistant to Some Top Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies

In 1994, a groundbreaking study published in Science unveiled the discovery of an antibody known as b12, isolated from an individual infected with HIV. The research demonstrated that while a collection of antibodies from HIV patients could effectively neutralize viruses in laboratory settings, the b12 antibody stood out for its exceptional performance. However, recent findings suggest that certain HIV strains in India are developing resistance to b12 and other broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), posing challenges for HIV treatment and prevention efforts.
