Swift Adoption: US and Key Arab Nations Call on UNSC to Support Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Countries like Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey are supporting a resolution at the UN Security Council to back President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. The joint statement expressed the urgent need for the resolution’s swift adoption. The resolution aims to build on a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. It includes the establishment of a transitional governing body for Gaza, known as the Board of Peace, which Trump would chair until 2027. Furthermore, it allows for the formation of a temporary International Stabilization Force to enhance security in Gaza. The draft also references the possibility of a future Palestinian state, a new addition to the plan. In contrast, Russia has proposed its own resolution, focusing on ceasefire initiatives without endorsing Trump’s plan. The Russian draft suggests exploring options for implementing a stabilisation force in Gaza.
