The ‘Shadow Fleets’ of Russia, Iran, and North Korea are Increasing Despite Sanctions

The massive use of old tankers transporting covert Russian oil to bypass EU and UK sanctions is on the rise, known as the ‘shadow fleet’ or parallel fleet. This comes from the latest study by the Royal United Services Institute, which highlights the increase in the number of tankers participating in these clandestine operations. Despite sanctions, these vessels continue to operate, posing a significant challenge to international efforts to enforce restrictions on Russian oil exports. The EU has imposed sanctions on Russia’s ‘Shadow Fleet,’ as well as Chinese companies and shipping companies dealing in crude and derivative products.
