Toll from Indonesian floods and landslides rises to 279

Rescuers in Indonesia are facing challenges in reaching areas hit by landslides and floods, with fears that the death toll of 279 will increase. In North Sumatra province, damaged roads and downed communication lines have isolated parts of the region, requiring relief aircraft for aid delivery. The lack of heavy equipment is also hindering rescue efforts. Over 3,500 police officers are searching for 174 missing individuals and assisting more than 28,000 evacuees in government shelters. The deluge has submerged houses and buildings, leading to a desperate need for heavy equipment to reach possible survivors.
