UK grandmother Lindsay Sandiford and another Briton leave Indonesia jail

Two British citizens, including Lindsay Sandiford, a grandmother on death row, were released from a Bali jail on November 6 as part of an agreement to send them back to the UK. Indonesia, known for its strict drug laws, has recently released several high-profile prisoners, including Sandiford, who was convicted of trafficking drugs in 2013. Alongside Sandiford, Shahab Shahabadi, serving a life sentence for drug offenses, was also repatriated. The two prisoners were transferred to the airport for their journey home, as stated by a law and human rights ministry official. Sandiford, found with cocaine worth $2.14 million in her suitcase in 2012, confessed to the crime, claiming she did it out of fear for her son’s life. The repatriation followed a deal between Indonesia and the UK, aiming to address the health issues of the prisoners, especially Sandiford, reportedly seriously ill. Upon arriving in London, both Sandiford and Shahabadi will receive medical treatment.
