Ultras Garuda supporters from the Indonesian national team stormed the PSSI office at GBK Arena in Jakarta, demanding the resignation of PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir. PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Sumardji responded to the demand. This action is a manifestation of disappointment over Team Indonesia’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Garuda’s journey ended in Round 4 after losing twice to Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
‘We demand total revolution from PSSI. Today, Ultras Garuda demands Erick Out. If you can’t do it, then please leave,’ said one speaker on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The group occupying the south stand of Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium also distributed flyers with messages posted in various areas. ‘Football is a unifying tool, not for seeking something,’ read one of the flyers. Unfortunately, no representatives from PSSI or Erick Thohir met with the Ultra Garuda protesters, estimated to be in the hundreds. However, PSSI assured that they will address the Ultras Garuda demands.
‘The right to express opinions in public is a citizen’s right, including my friends, my younger siblings in Ultras Garuda. So, everyone’s opinions, of course, I can see,’ Sumardji stated separately.
Regarding the demand for the appointment of a new coach, Sumardji emphasized that the federation is actively seeking a new candidate. Several names have been nominated and are under consideration at the moment. However, Sumardji did not disclose the names of the nominated coaches. An official announcement will be made by the federation once an agreement has been reached.
‘Following what Chairman (Erick Thohir) stated, it’s part of my duties as BTN Chairman. It’s also part of the Technical Director’s (appointment of national team coach) duties. But, everything will be brought to the Exco meeting for a decision,’ Sumardji explained.
‘Perhaps PSSI’s Chairman has mentioned five names, but I will not disclose who those five names are. Once Alex (Zwiers) from the Technical Directorate approves, we will bring it to the Exco meeting and decide together,’ added the BTN Chairman and Sumardji.
