The UN Security Council on Friday dismissed a recent attempt by Russia and China to postpone the reimplementation of sanctions on Iran. This move comes just a day ahead of the deadline for the enforcement of several UN ‘snapback’ sanctions, as stipulated in Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with global powers. Despite efforts by Western nations to reach a compromise through discussions with Iranian officials in the weeks leading up to the decision, no ‘concrete’ agreement was achieved.
