Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom are the latest countries to officially recognize a sovereign Palestinian state, joining over 140 countries that had already formalized the recognition. The list has grown since the start of the Gaza War in 2022. The British and Canadian recognition was seen as particularly symbolic, as they are the first two G7 nations to formalize the measure. This move aligns the UK, Canada, and Australia with over 140 other nations that recognize the Palestinian State, including Brazil. Portugal announced that it will formalize its recognition of the Palestinian State on Sunday (21). Other European countries, like France and Belgium, have expressed intentions to formalize their recognition as well.
