US Appeals Court Rules Trump’s Global Tariffs Illegal

The majority of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs were deemed illegal by a US federal appeals court, ruling he exceeded his authority in imposing them. However, the judges decided to keep the tariffs in place for now while the case returns to a lower court for further developments. The US Federal Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed a previous decision from the Court of International Trade, which found Trump wrongly used an emergency law to apply the tariffs. Nevertheless, the appellate judges sent the case back to the lower court to determine if the decision applies to all affected by the tariffs or just directly involved parties. The case concerns global tariffs, those not targeting specific sectors, and Trump still has the option to appeal to the Supreme Court.
