US officials in the Middle East were taken by surprise by Israel’s unexpected strike on Qatar, as confirmed by Lt. Gen. Derek France. The lack of prior indications was attributed to the fact that the US’s sensing capabilities were concentrated on monitoring other targets, such as Iran.
