US officials in the Middle East were taken by surprise by Israel’s unexpected strike on Qatar, as confirmed by Lt. Gen. Derek France. The lack of prior indications was attributed to the fact that the US’s sensing capabilities were concentrated on monitoring other targets, such as Iran. France emphasized that the Israeli attack came out of the blue, stating that it ‘wasn’t something that we expected.’ Despite the unexpected nature of the strike, the strong military relationship between the US and Qatar helped ease tensions in its aftermath.
