US increases reward for Maduro’s arrest to $50 million

The United States has doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to $50 million, up from the initially announced $25 million. US Attorney General Pam Bondi accused Maduro of collaborating with groups like Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel in a video posted on X. Venezuela’s Ministry of Information did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The US government had previously argued that Maduro’s victory in the 2024 elections was ‘illegitimate’ and issued an arrest order for the leader. The opposition claims to have won the election, a result widely contested by international observers. Maduro, president since 2013, was declared the winner of the July 2024 elections by the electoral authority and the Venezuelan Supreme Court, although detailed vote counts confirming his victory were never published.
