About 2,500 agents are executing hundreds of arrest and search warrants. The Penha and Alemao complexes house 26 communities. This is another stage of Operation Containment, a campaign to combat the gang’s expansion in Rio. The action follows over a year of investigations and warrants obtained by the Narcotics Suppression Police Department. According to the Civil Police, so far, two men have been arrested, and a rifle has been seized on Uranus Street. Two suspects from Bahia reportedly died in the confrontation. A homeless man was shot in the back and taken to Getúlio Vargas Hospital. Due to the operation, five primary care units in the Penha and Alemao regions have suspended operations, considering potential reopening in the next few hours. A family clinic continues to serve the population, but external activities like home visits are on hold. The Municipal Education Department reports that 24 schools in the Alemao Complex and 17 units in the Penha Complex have been affected.
