Western Recognition of Palestine as a Necessary Step but Not the End

During a high-level international conference on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the ‘two-state solution,’ several Western countries announced the recognition of Palestine as a necessary step. Countries like France, Belgium, Andorra, Luxembourg, Malta, and Monaco joined the list, following similar announcements by the UK, Canada, Australia, and Portugal the day before. Within the G20, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea have yet to recognize Palestine, while the US continues to favor Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Analysts believe that the recent recognitions are more of a political gesture made under pressure rather than a genuine change in stance. This wave of recognitions may strengthen Palestinian efforts towards statehood.
