Google introduced Gemini 3 on Tuesday — a new series of artificial intelligence models — in an attempt to outpace OpenAI after the launch of GPT-5. Gemini 3 will be integrated into the Gemini app, Google’s AI-based search products AI Mode, and AI Overviews, as well as the company’s corporate products. The feature rollout will start on Tuesday for selected subscribers and will be launched for a broader user base in the coming weeks. For the first time, anyone interested will have access to the new flagship AI model — Gemini 3 Pro — in the Gemini app from day one. Gemini 3 Pro is reportedly able to solve complex tasks across a wide range of topics, offering responses that the user ‘needs to hear,’ not necessarily what they ‘want to hear’; it better understands the ‘nuances of the query’ and can provide ‘interactive’ answers. According to the ‘system map,’ the new model surpasses top competitors in tasks related to mathematics, text analysis, and programming. The model is available for testing in Google AI Studio. The announcement came approximately eight months after Google introduced Gemini 2.5 and eleven months after Gemini 2.0. OpenAI, which kickstarted the boom of generative AI in late 2022 by launching ChatGPT, introduced GPT-5 in August. According to the company, the number of active monthly Gemini app users is 650 million, and for AI Overviews, it’s 2 billion. In August, OpenAI reported that the number of ChatGPT users per week had reached 700 million. Google also announced a new agent platform called Google Antigravity, allowing developers to write code ‘at a higher, task-oriented level.’
