The fight between Wanderlei Silva and Acelino ‘Popó’ Freitas, held on Saturday (9/27) at Spaten Fight Night in São Paulo, ended in a widespread confusion. The match, scheduled for eight rounds, was interrupted in the fourth round when the referee disqualified Wanderlei after three irregular blows. Popó was awarded the victory and even climbed the ropes to celebrate. However, the celebration was cut short by the intrusion of the teams into the ring, sparking a brawl. On TV Globo images, Popó’s son, Rafael Freitas, was seen punching Wanderlei in the back, causing him to fall unconscious and requiring immediate medical attention. The former fighter was taken to a hospital in the southern part of the capital, where he received stitches and underwent examinations.
