Vocabulary in the Great Dictionary of the Indonesian Language (KBBI) has exceeded 200,000 words by the end of 2024. However, did you know that there are words in Indonesian that are similar to Dutch? The similarity of words in Indonesian with the Dutch language is due to historical interactions between the two nations, such as during the colonial period. One interesting example is the word ‘kantoor’ in Dutch, which means ‘office,’ and ‘koelkast’ in Dutch, which translates to ‘fridge.’ In Indonesian, ‘kantor’ also means ‘office’ and ‘kulkas’ refers to ‘fridge.’
