5 Viruses That Can Damage the Heart Even After Recovery

Scientists from the American College of Cardiology have found that viral infections can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases not only during the illness but also years after recovery. This conclusion was reached after analyzing data from 155 studies spanning several decades of observation, as reported by CNN. The five most dangerous viruses for the heart include COVID-19, influenza, HIV, hepatitis C, and shingles. Those who have had the flu are six times more likely to have a heart attack within a month after the illness, while those who have had COVID-19 have almost twice the risk of stroke and heart disease compared to those who have not been sick.
