50 Thousand Wakaf Lands in Indonesia Are Unproductive, Here’s the Root of the Problem

Jakarta – The potential of wakaf assets in Indonesia is actually far more fantastic than imagined, and is even considered the largest in the world. However, ironically, tens of thousands of these wakaf points are currently ‘asleep’ and not fully utilized. Kamaruddin Amin, a key figure in the wakaf industry, pointed out that one of the main problems is the lack of proper management and utilization of these lands.

Many of these wakaf lands are located in prime areas with high economic value, yet they remain undeveloped. Amin emphasized the need for strategic steps to unlock the potential of these lands, which could significantly contribute to the country’s economy. The mismanagement of wakaf assets is not only a financial loss, but also a missed opportunity to enhance the welfare of the community through initiatives such as education and social programs.

Various stakeholders, including the government, society, and private sectors, play a crucial role in optimizing the use of wakaf lands. Collaborative efforts are needed to ensure that these assets are utilized effectively and sustainably. By implementing proper planning and innovative strategies, these lands can be transformed into productive resources that benefit both the current generation and future ones.

It is essential to raise awareness and educate the public about the significance of wakaf lands and the positive impact they can have on society. With the right approach and support, these lands can be developed into centers of excellence that promote economic growth and community well-being. By addressing the core issues hindering the productivity of wakaf lands, Indonesia has the opportunity to unlock a vast potential for sustainable development and social progress.
