The GEM’s grand design includes a six-story staircase lined with ancient statues and tombs, culminating in a panoramic glass window overlooking the pyramids. Twelve main galleries inside trace Egypt’s 5,000-year history, from prehistoric settlements to the Roman era, offering visitors a direct connection to the country’s monumental past. Despite facing delays due to political unrest, the Covid-19 pandemic, and regional instability, the museum partially opened in 2024 and is now scheduled for full inauguration on November 4, 2025. Additionally, the GEM complex houses research facilities, restoration workshops, and open storage areas for scholars, solidifying its role as both a tourist destination and a hub for cultural preservation and education.
