Acura Returns to the 2000s: Japanese Premium Brand Follows in Renault’s Footsteps

Acura unveils RSX prototype: dual motor, ASIMO OS, and ‘dramatic’ design. Acura officially brings back the RSX name, now as a fully electric crossover on the new Honda 0 platform. The premium vehicle is set to launch in 2026 and will be the brand’s main response to the growing demand in the sports electric SUV segment. The already showcased prototype hints at an aggressive look: long wheelbase, short overhangs, sloping roof, integrated spoiler, and sporty accents like Brembo brakes. This silhouette promises a spacious cabin and dynamic character. RSX will be the first model produced on the new Honda EV cluster in Ohio. The switch to a unified assembly line for ICEs, hybrids, and electric cars achieves the main goal: flexibility. The car is already being tested on US roads, with recent photos showing it at a Tesla Supercharger station with a NACS port. This hints at no issues with infrastructure, which is particularly valued by future electric car owners. The company is currently staying silent on the technical specifications. Only two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and advanced double wishbone suspension have been officially confirmed. Engineers promise a low center of gravity and handling akin to sports cars – a bold statement, but fitting for the Acura brand. The electric crossover will be able to power household appliances and even homes. The interior will feature the new ASIMO OS system for the first time, capable of learning the driver’s habits. RSX will have to compete with the Tesla Model Y, Cadillac Optiq, and Volvo EX30. Personally, I believe that Acura’s focus on a more emotional design and its own platform could give the model a chance to stand out from its competitors, especially if the manufacturer delivers on range.
