A meeting between BJP legislators from Jammu and Kashmir and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led to a controversy at Vaishnodevi Medical College, where Muslim students were allegedly given more admissions than Hindu students. Hindu organizations are demanding that only Hindu students be admitted at the college, citing religious beliefs.
The BJP legislators submitted a petition to Sinha, claiming that out of 50 seats in the college, 42 were allocated to Muslim students, sparking the controversy. The Hindu organizations argue that the college’s funds are provided by Vaishnodevi Shrine Board, and since it is a religious institution, admission should be restricted to students with religious affiliations.
The Hindu organizations are specifically requesting admission only for Hindu students at the institution. BJP representatives are calling for a reevaluation of the admission process, pointing out that as per the guidelines of the National Medical Council, admissions were based solely on merit. However, the Hindu organizations insist that only Hindus should be granted admission.
In the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, opposition leader Sunil Sharma expressed disapproval of the special entrance for a particular community in the college. He emphasized that only those who have faith in Vaishnodevi should be granted admission. Manoj Sinha serves as the Chairman of Vaishnodevi Shrine Board.
