AeroFla sets the mood for Flamengo’s departure to the final in Lima

Logistic planning has been a major focus for the city government, as the so-called ‘AeroFla’ has gained even more traction with Flamengo’s nearing Brazilian title after yesterday’s draw against Atlético-MG, mobilizing various public entities in Rio de Janeiro. Initially aimed at showing support for Flamengo’s squad before their flight to Lima, the AeroFla has now evolved to also include ‘celebrations’ for the likely national title. The city estimates that over ten thousand people will gather around Galeão airport’s cargo terminal. Several traffic changes will occur intermittently during the delegation’s passage, with the blockades set to start an hour and a half before the buses depart, as Municipal Guard, Municipal Order Department (Seop), CET-Rio, Comlurb, and Military Police will monitor the entire route in real-time. Approximately 260 cameras, drones, and teams on the streets will aid in the operation, including staff from RioGaleão, the company in charge of Tom Jobim International Airport. The logistics meeting was held at the Rio City Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio) with representatives from the club and members of various municipal and state agencies participating in the organization. The AeroFla showcases the fans’ passion while also posing a significant operational challenge, with all Rio City agencies working together to ensure a safe journey with minimal impact on the city. Thiago Curvello, CEO of COR-Rio, stated, ‘Flamengo will train at Ninho do Urubu at 10 a.m. on Wednesday after arriving from Belo Horizonte. The team will then have lunch at the training center, rest, and leave around 3:30 p.m. escorted by the Military Police.’
