ISLAM QALA, Afghanistan, August 7 – Habiba, an Afghan woman who fled Taliban rule to pursue a master’s degree in engineering in Iran, was deported in July just before she was about to complete her studies. The expulsion left her reeling, as she now struggles to restart her life back in Afghanistan.
For Habiba and many others like her, the return to Afghanistan has been a harsh reality check. Fleeing conflict and seeking opportunities in Iran, only to be abruptly deported, has left them in a state of uncertainty and despair. The sudden disruption in Habiba’s educational pursuit has dashed her hopes for a better future, forcing her to navigate the challenges of starting over in her war-torn homeland.
Returning to Afghanistan, Habiba and the deported Afghans face obstacles such as lack of resources, social stigma, and limited job prospects. The stark contrast between the opportunities they sought in Iran and the harsh realities awaiting them in Afghanistan has made the transition incredibly difficult. Coupled with the emotional toll of uprooting their lives, many find themselves in a state of limbo, unsure of how to move forward.
The struggles of deported Afghans highlight the complex web of challenges faced by refugees forced to return to their home country. Habiba’s story sheds light on the plight of many who dreamt of a better future only to be met with uncertainty and hardship upon their return. As the Afghan government and humanitarian organizations grapple with the influx of returnees, the need for support systems and resources to help these individuals rebuild their lives becomes increasingly urgent.
Deported Afghans like Habiba are resilient in the face of adversity, but the road to recovery and stability is long and arduous. The journey to starting over in Afghanistan is riddled with obstacles, but Habiba and others like her remain determined to carve out a new path for themselves. As they navigate the challenges of returning home and rebuilding their lives, their resilience and perseverance serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
