The KHI Solar One project in South Africa’s Northern Cape province is a shining example of the country’s solar energy potential. With the use of solar mirrors, the project generates an impressive 50 megawatts of electricity, providing clean and renewable power to more than 40,000 households. The mirrors are strategically positioned to track the sunrays throughout the day, reflecting them onto a tower where a receiver absorbs the intense heat. This process leads to the boiling of water and the production of high-pressure steam, which is then converted into electricity.
