AIIMS-Nagpur Raises Awareness on World Diabetes Day: Prevention and Care

AIIMS Nagpur is gearing up to celebrate World Diabetes Day by organizing a series of educational and awareness initiatives aimed at empowering patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. These programs are aligned with the global theme ‘Transforming Diabetes Care: From Acute Crisis to Long-Term Control.’ Dr. Prashant P Joshi, executive director and CEO of AIIMS Nagpur, emphasized the pressing issue of the escalating diabetes epidemic in India due to lifestyle changes. He highlighted findings from the INDIAB study, revealing that diabetes affects 11% of Indians, with an additional 15% at high risk of progressing to diabetes without prompt intervention.

To commemorate the occasion, AIIMS will host ward-based awareness sessions facilitated by nursing teams focusing on early detection, lifestyle adjustments, and insulin utilization. Practical demonstrations on the safe administration and disposal of insulin will be incorporated into the program. A Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled ‘Transforming Diabetes Care: From Acute Crisis to Long-Term Control’ will feature insightful discussions by guest speakers such as Dr. Ravindra Shukla from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr. Sunil Ambulkar, and Prof. Joshi. Dr. Anupriya, the faculty-in-charge of the department of endocrinology, is overseeing the coordination of this impactful event.
