According to the Delhi Police, a worrying statistic has come to light. In the past 10 years, over 1.8 million children have gone missing in the national capital, with more than 50,000 still unaccounted for. These revelations raise serious concerns about the safety of children in the city.
From 2015 to 2025, a total of 1.84 lakh children were reported missing. Out of this, 1.33 lakh children were found, while 50,771 children are still missing. This means that one in every three children is still missing.
The years with the highest number of missing children were: 2019 – 18,063, 2023 – 18,197, 2024 – 19,047, and in 2020 due to the COVID lockdown, only 13,647 cases were recorded, the lowest in years.
Experts point out that the lockdown restricted people’s movements, leading to a temporary decrease in the number of missing children. However, as restrictions were lifted, cases began to rise rapidly.
