Alckmin and Tarcísio finalize together the auction of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel

The Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, shared the traditional gavel strike after the auction at B3. The event concluded the concession of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel. Along with them, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, also took part in the gavel strike. The auction, won by the Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil, also had the presence of Minister Fernando Haddad (Finance), port authorities, federal and state deputies. ‘Today we can celebrate the participation of the companies that enriched this process, helped us to have a much more viable, adjusted, and successful project,’ said Tarcísio. Alckmin emphasized the importance that the project will have for the port and the population of Baixada Santista. ‘We are making it possible to execute this very important project with a public-private partnership to build and operate a tunnel for 30 years that will accommodate pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, cars, buses, trucks, trams, reducing costs and strengthening our economy,’ stated Alckmin. ‘It is the end of a 100-year wait. It is a grand project that, besides connecting Santos to Guarujá, will generate employment, improve income, enhance the logistics of the Port of Santos, and boost the region’s mobility,’ added Silvio Costa Filho.
