Alex Poatan Pereira is once again the UFC champion. In the early hours of Sunday (5), in Las Vegas, the Brazilian fighter overran the then light heavyweight titleholder, Magomed Ankalaev, winning by technical knockout in just 80 seconds and reclaiming the title from the Russian. This is the second time Poatan has won the light heavyweight belt. He won the title against Jiri Prochazka in 2023 and defended it three times last year, against Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree Jr. In March of this year, Poatan faced Ankalaev but was defeated by unanimous decision and lost the belt. The Brazilian stated in recent interviews that he was not in a condition to fight and therefore did not perform well.
