Another Failure by Avtovaz Could Turn into a Disaster: No Money, Bankruptcy Ahead

In St. Petersburg, only 12 new Lada Iskra cars were registered from July to October, according to recent data from ‘Automarketing’. October was the most active month, with eight cars being registered, accounting for two-thirds of all sales during that period. Over 60% of registrations were made by legal entities. St. Petersburg’s share of Iskra sales nationwide remains minimal, about 1.5%. Experts attribute the slow start to limited shipments of the less demanded body types and configurations being sent to the city. Currently, dealers have over 20 new Iskra vehicles available, mostly sedans, with a few SW Cross wagons, but the assortment is still far from stable. The situation could improve after the start of Iskra production at the ‘Avtovaz St. Petersburg’ plant, which began operating in September. This should increase deliveries to the region and eliminate the shortage of popular versions.
