Anvisa lists a series of possible side effects from the uncontrolled use of erectile dysfunction medications. Some of the listed effects include serious cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, stroke, chest pain, palpitations, and tachycardia. The agency also warns about hypotension (low blood pressure), especially if the patient is taking hypertension medications, as well as hypertension and fainting. Other potential side effects highlighted are painful and prolonged erections lasting over four hours, as well as sudden decrease or loss of vision or hearing, sometimes accompanied by ringing in the ears and dizziness.
