AR Rahman Launches All-Women Band Rooh-e-Noor with Daughter as Leader

Academy and National Award-winning composer A R Rahman has unveiled Rooh-e-Noor, a six-member all-women band, spearheaded by his daughter, Khatija Rahman. Formed under Rahman’s KM Musiq audio label, Rooh-e-Noor will showcase Kannika Urs as the project leader. The band is scheduled to debut at the Tanweer Festival on November 21 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Apart from Khatija, the band comprises musicians Pooja Tiwari, Sana Aziz, Shaoni Mojumdar, Amina Rafiq, and Shifa Ruby. With Tiwari and Mojumdar as vocal trainers, Rafiq and Ruby overseeing music supervision, and Aziz, Kalyani, and Abhyankar managing production. Rooh-e-Noor, translating to ‘Soul of Light,’ aims to emphasize the transformative and uplifting power of women’s voices.
‘Roohe-Noor isn’t just a band, it’s a light that connects hearts. Each of these women embodies the confidence of modern artistry. Their collective voice is pure, powerful, rooted, and forward-thinking,’ said AR Rahman.
