Asia Cup 2025: ICC has issued public notices of penalties during the Asia Cup 2025, involving Pakistan cricketer Haris Rauf who engaged in many actions to provoke India and had altercations with Indian players. Now he faces a ban for this. ICC has imposed a ban on him and hefty fines.
Between India and Pakistan, incidents that took place during the matches on September 14, 21, and 28 have been brought to the attention of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. In these three matches, India refused to shake hands with Pakistani players, leading to aggressive actions by the Pakistani players.
The first match had a controversy on September 14 during the Asia Cup between India and Pakistan. In this match, Rauf made derogatory comments towards Indian players and made provocative gestures related to Operation Sindoor, hinting at breaking jets and winning 6-0. India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, and Haris Rauf were found guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct 2.21. Suryakumar Yadav was fined 30% of his match fee and given two demerit points by ICC.
Farhan was also found guilty in this incident but received a warning and was left unpunished. After completing half of the game, Farhan gestured to shoot something. Rauf, on the other hand, was also found guilty in this incident and was fined 30% of his match fee and given two demerit points.
The second match also had a turmoil on September 21 with heavy aggression between players of both teams. Match referee Andy Pycroft addressed these issues. Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh also displayed aggressive behavior during the match, yet remained unpenalized with no further action taken against him.
Issuing a warning after taking a wicket against Pakistan on September 28, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah indicated a helicopter drop gesture towards Rauf, sparking emotional distress. Bumrah was given only a warning and a demerit point, leaving him unpunished. In the same match, against non-compliant behavior towards India, Rauf was also penalized. In the final match, Rauf received 30% of his match fee and two demerit points.
Rauf has accumulated a total of four demerit points, translated into two suspension points in the ICC rules. This means he will be absent in two matches in cricket. This implies that he will not be able to play the two ODIs against South Africa.
