Atletico Mineiro has achieved the projected financial goal for the Copa Sudamericana. By defeating Bolivar, the club reached the semifinals and secured R$ 20.4 million in prize money in the tournament, a significant amount to balance the books in the second semester. At the beginning of the year, the club set reaching the Sula semifinals as a financial goal, which they have now accomplished. The same success was seen in the Copa do Brasil by reaching the quarterfinals.
With the semifinal qualification, the club earned R$ 4.7 million. Adding up the previous stages, they totaled R$ 16.1 million, making it R$ 20.4 million in total prize money. In the group stage, they received US$ 900,000 (R$ 4.9 million), while victory in that stage added US$ 115,000 (R$ 631,000) to their earnings. The playoff stage added US$ 500,000 (R$ 2.8 million), and advancement to the round of 16 brought in US$ 600,000 (R$ 3.4 million). The quarterfinals saw them earn US$ 700,000 (R$ 3.8 million), and now in the semifinals, they have secured US$ 800,000 (R$ 4.3 million).
With two competitions on the calendar, the club is just two games away from adding at least another R$ 11.3 million to their coffers. If they manage to clinch the title, the amount would exceed R$ 36 million. Atlético Mineiro is the only Brazilian team left in the Sudamericana.
