Australia and Indonesia to Sign Upgraded Defence Pact in January

Australia and Indonesia are on the verge of finalizing a groundbreaking defence treaty that will enhance their already close collaboration on security issues. The treaty, set to be signed in January, was approved earlier this week by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during the latter’s inaugural state visit to Australia. This new agreement will commit both countries to regular consultations at the leadership and ministerial levels concerning security matters. Furthermore, it will facilitate mutually beneficial security activities and outline measures to address any threats to either nation’s security, either individually or jointly, as stated by Albanese.
