AVTOVAZ is Trying in Vain: The New Iskra Will Not Be in Demand Among the People

The SUV segment continues to strengthen its leadership in the Russian automotive market. According to ‘AvtoStat’, in August 2025, 88,896 crossovers and SUVs were sold, representing 72.7% of all newly sold vehicles. This marks a new historical record. Prior to this, the record high was 69.5% in April 2023.

The increase in SUV sales is largely due to the growing demand for these vehicles among consumers. SUVs are popular due to their versatility, spaciousness, and ability to handle various terrains. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years, as more Russian consumers seek vehicles that offer both functionality and comfort.

In contrast to the success of SUVs, AVTOVAZ’s new model, Iskra, is predicted to struggle in the market. Despite AVTOVAZ’s efforts to promote the Iskra as a competitive option in the SUV segment, experts believe that it will not be in high demand among consumers. The Iskra lacks the features and design elements that have made other SUVs popular in the market.

Experts also point to the Iskra’s pricing as a potential barrier to its success. The model is priced higher than similar SUVs on the market, making it less appealing to budget-conscious consumers. Additionally, the Iskra’s performance and fuel efficiency are not competitive enough to justify its higher price point. These factors are likely to limit the Iskra’s market appeal and hinder its sales performance in the competitive SUV segment.

Despite the challenges faced by the Iskra, AVTOVAZ remains optimistic about the model’s potential. The company continues to invest in marketing and promotional efforts to increase awareness and interest in the Iskra. However, industry experts remain skeptical about the model’s success and believe that AVTOVAZ may need to make significant changes to the Iskra in order to make it a more competitive and appealing option for consumers.
