The state of Bahia reported its first death suspected to be caused by methanol poisoning. The case involves a 56-year-old man who went to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) in the Queimadinha neighborhood of Feira de Santana (about 109 km from Salvador) and died early Friday morning. The suspicion of poisoning was confirmed by the Bahia State Health Department and the Feira de Santana Municipal Health Department. Biological samples from the patient will be collected and sent for analysis in a laboratory. The results confirming or ruling out the poisoning hypothesis are expected to be ready in seven days.
