Bahia reports first suspected death from methanol poisoning

Bahia confirmed on Friday the first suspected death from methanol poisoning. The case occurred in the city of Feira de Santana, with the death recorded during the early morning hours. A report is expected to be ready within seven days. The patient, a 56-year-old man, was admitted to the Emergency Care Unit of Queimadinha. ‘The case will be monitored by the State and municipal surveillance teams, in coordination with the State Department of Public Safety, enhancing the integration of monitoring and investigation efforts,’ the Bahia Health Department said in a statement. There are 41 cases under investigation for suspected methanol poisoning in the state of São Paulo, with six suspected deaths and 11 confirmed cases. Cases are also being investigated in Pernambuco and Brasília.
