Beating Ex-US Open Champ Helped Sahaja Regain Form

CHENNAI: The victory over 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens marked a significant turning point in the season for Sahaja Yamalapalli, India’s number 1 women’s tennis player. At the WTA $125000 event in Tampico, Mexico, the 25-year-old defeated Stephens in straight sets in the round of 32. Even though she lost to Petra Marcinko in the following round, Sahaja felt a resurgence in her game. She stated, “I felt like I found my game again when I played Stephens, and my form was back.” Continuing her momentum at the Chennai Open was essential, and she celebrated her birthday by performing exceptionally well on the court.
