The epic Palmeiras comeback against LDU on Thursday (31) in the CONMEBOL Libertadores semifinal was led on the field by the players chosen by Abel Ferreira and off the pitch by the fans. Over 39,900 Palmeiras supporters went to the stadium to support the team in search of victory. The Verdão needed to win by four goals to secure their spot in the final of the competition. Sosa, Bruno Fuchs, and Raphael Veiga (twice) scored the goals of the match. The Palmeiras stadium ‘exploded’ after the fourth goal, scored by Raphael Veiga from a penalty. In the stands, even the suites went into ecstasy. On the ‘Fala a Fonte’, a daily program on YouTube by ESPN, presenter Bruno Vicari reported a curious scene witnessed at the Allianz Parque after the comeback. In one of the suites, the players who were not selected for the game, absent due to medical reasons or technical choices, seemed ‘like children for the first time at the stadium’. Weverton, Paulinho, Benedetti, and Lucas Evangelista were singing like fans. ‘Usually, players watch the game more calmly. But the guys were shouting, jumping, looking like children for the first time at the stadium. They were engrossed in the comeback. They shouted and spun their shirts,’ Vicari says. Legend Rivaldo, who won multiple titles with Palmeiras in the 90s and was a World Champion with the Brazilian national team in 2002, was also present at Allianz Parque celebrating Palmeiras’ victory. Before the match started, reporter André Hernan spoke with Weverton on the sidelines. The goalkeeper, recovering from a fracture in his right hand, told ESPN that he ‘will be back soon.’ Carlos Miguel took over the spot left vacant after the injury to the number 21 jersey. Palmeiras will face Flamengo in the Libertadores final. The decision is scheduled for November 29th at the Estadio Monumental in Lima, Peru.
