Tomorrow, the results of the Bihar legislative assembly elections held over the past 4 elections will be revealed in that state. What unfolded in these elections? How many seats did each party win? Let’s examine in detail.
In Bihar, the interesting turn of events saw Nitish Kumar, who transformed into an unassailable force over 20 years, becoming the Chief Minister in 2005. That year, the legislative assembly elections were intriguing as they took place in February. Due to the lack of a clear majority for any party, the President’s Rule was imposed. Subsequently, in October-November, elections were conducted again. In this, Nitish’s JDU allied with BJP, contested in 139 seats, winning in 88.
In the 2010 legislative assembly elections BJP, allied with JDU, contested in 141 seats, winning in 115. In the 2015 elections, JDU, along with RJD and Congress, formed the Mahagathbandhan. Nitish, contesting in 101 seats, secured victory in 71. Revisiting the elections in 2020, Nitish, in alliance with BJP, contested in 115 seats, emerging victorious in 43.
In the last 4 elections, BJP, in alliance with JDU in 3, contested, supported and won in fewer seats than JDU. In 2005, BJP contested in 102 seats, winning 55. In 2010, BJP contested in 102 seats, winning 91. While in the 2015 elections, BJP contested in 157 seats, winning 53. In the 2020 elections, BJP won in 110 seats, surpassing JDU by 31 seats, totaling 74 victories.
Despite this, JDU leader Nitish Kumar was appointed as Chief Minister. In alliance with Congress in 2005, RJD contested in 175 seats, winning 54. In 2010, in association with Lok Janshakti Party, RJD contested in 168 seats, winning 22. In 2015, part of the Mahagathbandhan, RJD contested in 101 seats, winning 80. Contrary to previous elections, RJD won in 58 more seats.
In the same coalition in 2020, RJD contested in 144 seats, winning in 75. In 2005, Congress contested in 51 seats, securing victory in 9. The 2010 elections saw Congress contesting alone, facing significant setbacks. Competing in 243 seats, they only won in 4. In 2015, as part of the Mahagathbandhan, Congress won in 27 out of 41 contested seats. In the 2020 elections, Congress won in 19 out of 70 contested seats.
